Position Summary:

A Project Manager manages and oversees all aspects of software implementation and development projects to ensure they are completed on time and within budget. He/she has overall responsibility for managing scope, cost, schedule, change, and issue resolution within a cross-functional team (internal as well as external resources) on several projects concurrently.

A Project Manager is responsible for ensuring that quality deliverables are produced within the specified constraints of each project. He/she also contributes to process improvement initiatives that relate to improving project delivery.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • During project initiation, conducts briefing with stakeholders to review any discovery that has taken place prior to the project starting.
  • Maintains responsibility for project schedule, budget, scope, and quality by creating and maintaining various project documents including, but not limited to, a detailed project plan.
  • Identifies and requests staffing needs for projects in coordination with Resource Managers for project team sizes spanning between 3 to 20 members.
  • Identifies and addresses interdependencies between other ongoing/upcoming projects managed by themselves or colleagues.
  • Collaborates with project leadership to prioritize and coordinate any conflicts with task dependencies or resources.
  • Mediates all project communication with stakeholders across all levels of the organization and externally (clients/vendors).
  • Ensures client satisfaction by interacting collaboratively with all project stakeholders, providing regular status updates to stakeholders on project scope, schedule, budget, and risk.
  • Facilitates daily cooperation between business and technical areas to achieve project goals.
  • In collaboration with the project team, identifies and performs impact analysis on changes to the original project business requirements and scope of work. Communicates and plans accordingly for any approved Project Change Orders.
  • Identifies and manages project risks, assumptions, issues, contingencies, and dependencies.
  • Monitors project performance by using project level Change Control, Issue, Risk, and Decision Logs as well as team level Action and Question logs.
  • Coaches, mentors and provides guidance to project team members.
  • Plans for and manages smooth handoff of projects to the appropriate business area(s)/client, which may include training provisions.
  • Responsible for overall adherence to the SDLC in all stages from Discovery/Initiation through Implementation.
  • Maintains a client service approach and adheres to company values.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Continues professional development in order to keep abreast of emerging technologies, methods and best practices.
  • Evaluates and reports on individual team member performance.
  • Collaborates with PM team to continuously improve methodology, process and documentation. Strives to maintain continuity of project team member expectations
  • Participates in team and company meetings and activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Essential Skills:

  • Seasoned understanding of Project Management practices and methodologies
  • Proven experience at managing software implementation and development projects in a Software as a Service (SaaS) environment
  • Exudes a high level of leadership ability, takes initiative and has the courage to be honest in all endeavors
  • Respectful and inclusive of individuals and processes within and outside the project team
  • Thorough understanding of the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and its key control points
  • Serves as escalation point for project teams; analyzes the situation, facilitates sessions to gather solution options, presents recommendations and drives toward resolution
  • Excels at coaching and coordinating groups of individuals by promoting teamwork, delegating tasks, resolving conflict, setting goals, and evaluating performance
  • Ability to negotiate with integrity in areas such as conflict management, resource needs, schedule management, scope management, and risk management

Education, Training, and Experience

  • Bachelor degree in related field preferred
  • At least three (3) years of technical project management experience
  • Experience with Jira and Confluence a plus
  • Certification as professional Project Manager (PMP) a plus
  • Experience in the Life Insurance industry a plus
